What is EWI Wrap?
EWI stands for External Wall Insulation. An EWI wrap is a method of completely wrapping the outside of a building in insulation material to improve energy efficiency and reduce heat loss.
Think of it like putting a big, warm coat on your house.
How Dose it work?
Insulation boards (usually made of materials like expanded polystyrene, mineral wool, or PIR foam) are fixed to the outside walls of your house.
A reinforcing mesh and a protective render or cladding layer is added over the insulation to make it weatherproof and visually appealing.
The result is a fully insulated external shell—what people often refer to as an EWI wrap.
Why Use an EWI Wrap?
Stops heat escaping through walls (which can account for up to 35% of heat loss in uninsulated homes)
Cuts heating bills dramatically
Improves comfort inside the home
Boosts your BER (Building Energy Rating)
Modernises the look of your home from the outside
Where It’s CommonlyUsed?
On older homes with solid walls (often built before the 1980s)
As part of deep retrofit projects
In low-energy or passive house renovations
On buildings aiming for net zero energy use
